AP Front Page for German Acupuncture Study on Low Back Pain
Another great study showing Acupuncture's work on low back pain, and yet another to add to the Sham and Real Acu both work better than allopathic care.
Over 1100 patients enrolled and either got real acu, sham acu, or the typical western combo of drugs and PT. The improvement outcome rates were 47% for real, 44% for sham, 27% for western. The sham Acupuncture involved here was shallow needling of non-Acupuncture points. I haven't seen the actual study so I don't know where any of these needles went.
This is awesome from the abstract: Conclusions: Low back pain improved after acupuncture treatment for at least 6 months. Effectiveness of acupuncture, either verum or sham, was almost twice that of conventional therapy.
